Associate Director/Director- Design (China, Shanghai)

JOB LOCATION
This is an onsite role located in Shanghai
ROLE PURPOSE
Senior leader responsible for P Landscape’s China portfolio, client relationships, design quality and Shanghai team performance. The key role is to bridge the current gap between China clients & PMs and Bangkok Design Leadership, reducing dependency on Bangkok/Pui for day-to-day senior decisions.
• Client Leadership: Be P Landscape’s senior representative in China; manage key client relationships and intervene before issues escalate.
• Project Oversight: Review all China projects for client satisfaction, design quality, schedule, fee/profitability and termination risk.
• Design–PM Bridge: Translate client needs into design decisions and ensure Shanghai PMs are not simply passing comments between China and Bangkok.
• Design Quality: Protect P Landscape’s design intent while working closely with Bangkok Design Directors.
• Team Development: Mentor China PMs and develop future senior project leaders.
• Business & Commercial: Support BD, repeat business, scope/variation management, fee collection and project profitability.
Qualification
• 10–15 years’ experience, preferably with substantial China experience.
• Strong background in Urban/Mixed-use, High-end Residential and/or Luxury Hospitality.
• Strong design judgment client leadership project/commercial management.
• Mandarin/Chinese-market fluency highly preferred.
• Experience in a respected international landscape/architecture/design practice.
• Senior enough to represent P Landscape independently with major developers.
AUTHORITY
Should operate peer-to-peer with Design Directors from Bangkok Studio, with authority to make project/client decisions locally and escalate only major design or commercial matters.
